AUTAWA RD – Case Study

“Autawa Road is a 1,221 hectare property with a high percentage of steep erosion prone land, and rapidly regenerating native scrub cover.

ENABLING SUCCESSION ON MARGINAL FARMLAND

Autawa Road was part of a wider family farming operation comprising a total of 2,011 hectares. The Vendor will remain in the community and continue farming the remaining 790 Ha. A further 26 Ha of high quality river flats from Drylandcarbon’s purchase will be retained by the vendor by way of a sub-division for ongoing farming purposes.

EXOTIC FORESTRY AND INDIGENOUS REVERSION

During the winters of 2020 and 2021, 695 hectares will be planted in Pinus radiata at a stocking rate of ~1,000 stems per hectare. The forest will be managed and tended as a rotation timber crop applying best-practice forest management standards. This includes 10m ‘set backs’ from sensitive waterways and wetlands on the property as well as avoiding scrub clearance on mature stands of indigenous cover.

510 hectares of established indigenous bush will be allowed to regenerate alongside the established forest.
